What are the hours of the Landfill of North Iowa (LNI)?
The Landfill is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri. & 8 a.m.-noon on Sat. Special arrangements can be made for after-hours programs.

Who can have a field trip at the Landfill of North Iowa?
Any school, club or civic group in the LNI’s service area. (The service area includes Cerro Gordo and Franklin counties, the communities of Klemme, Garner, Forest City, Joice, Hanlontown, Northwood, Kensett, Manly, Grafton and Nora Springs.

Are there any indoor facilities, in case of bad weather?
The Landfill of North Iowa has an Education Center located at the landfill. Many recycled materials were used to build the education center. The Education Center can accommodate up to 60 people.

Is there any place where we can eat lunch?
Lunch may be eaten inside the Education Center. You may bring sack lunches, have a potluck, or you may hire a caterer at your expense. What is there to learn about at the Landfill of North Iowa?
The Landfill of North Iowa is not just a place to take your trash. If you arrive by bus, we will provide a guided bus tour to show visitors how the landfill works. The LNI takes yard waste and processes it into compost which is available at no charge to residents in the LNI’s service area. Wood waste is turned into wood chips and animal bedding. The LNI provides e-cycling (electronics recycling) year-round. We are also a RCC (Regional Collection Center) for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). The Education Center is an outstanding example of how recycled materials can be used in buildings and everyday products.

If we can’t come for a field trip, can anyone come and talk to us?
Yes, we would be happy to come and give a program to your group as long as you are a school, club, or civic group within our service area.

What does it cost to have a field trip at the LNI or to have the Education Coordinator give a program?
Field trips and programs are provided at no charge to groups within our service area. Schools in our service area are also eligible to be reimbursed for transportation expenses through T.A.R.P. (Transportation Assistance Reimbursement Program) provided by the LNI.
